How do I save my html from the report viewer?

Do I need to go to the folder and rename it? What folder and what file?

Jeff = Can we get a "SAVE AS" button in the HTML JCapper Report Viewer in a future update?

save it like any other file

open it, " save as" give it a new location and file name. I do it all the time.

or cut and paste it to a new location and rename it there.

Of course Jack and Ralph are right - but for the benefit of the brand new user - I'm going to jump in and post a few FAQs that provide comprehensive background info/specifics.

Q. What are the report file names?

A. The first report file name is Report_1.html.

This report file is displayed when the HTML One button on the Report Generator is clicked. Note: Selecting HTML One from the Available Reports drop down also displays the Report_1.html report file.

This report file contains a JCapper .html report for all races included in the most recent Calc Races run on the pointed to folder.

Note: The Report Generator merely displays the report file. The report file itself is actually created during a Calc Races.

A. The second report file name is Report_2.html.

This report file is displayed when the HTML Two button on the Report Generator is clicked. Note: Selecting HTML Two from the Available Reports drop down also displays the Report_2.html report file.

This report file contains a JCapper .html report for all races included in the most recent single card or single race Calc Races run on the pointed to folder.

Note: The Report Generator merely displays the report file. The report file itself is actually created during a Calc Races.

Q. What is the folder name/where on my hard drive are these report files created?

A. The folder names where .html report files are created is controlled by the folders you set up in the DFM (Data Folder Manager.)

Here's how it works:

When you run a Calc Races on Folder1 - your Calc Races takes place on the folder you've set up as Data Folder 1 in the DFM - and that's where you will find the Report_1.html and Report_2.html files created by your Calc Races routine.

When you run a Calc Races on Folder2 - your Calc Races takes place on the folder you've set up as Data Folder 2 in the DFM - and that's where you will find the Report_1.html and Report_2.html files created by your Calc Races routine.

When you run a Calc Races on Folder3 - your Calc Races takes place on the folder you've set up as Data Folder 3 in the DFM - and that's where you will find the Report_1.html and Report_2.html files created by your Calc Races routine.

Q. Can I view my report files in a web browser instead of the JCapper Report Viewer?

A. Yes. The files are .html. To view a report file in a web browser, navigate to the folder where the report files were created during a recent Calc Races, find the file you want to view, and double click to open it in your default web browser.

No. I'm not going to spend programming hrs on this because "SAVE AS" functionality (in one form or another) is already present.

The JCapper HTML Report Viewer uses the same libraries/dlls that Internet Explorer does. Up until recently, I was able to right click a report file while it was open in the JCapper Report Viewer - and select "SAVE AS" as one of my options - and from there give the file a unique name - and save it.

On some of my machines I am allowing auto Windows Updates to take place. Interestingly enough, on those machines, "Save As" is no longer an option when I right click a report file in the Report Viewer (which acts the same an Internet Explorer web browser.) On those machines, it looks like the "save as" option has been replaced by "send to One Note." (Great. Thanks Microsoft.)

On machines where auto Windows Updates are turned off - the "save as" option is still there when I right click a report file from inside the JCapper Report Viwer.

However, on all of my machines:

When I display a JCapper report file in either Firefox or Chrome - the "save as" option is still there.

That said, whether "save as" is there as an option or not when a displayed report file is right clicked from inside in a web browser...

You always have the option to save a report file by doing the following:

1. Navigate to the folder where the report file exists.

Hint: It's the same folder that you have set up in the DFM and it's the same folder where you ran your Calc Races.

2. Find the report file itself (Report_1.html or Report_2.html.)

3. Right click the report file itself and rename it.

Hint: When renaming the file you can give it a unique name that describes the races on the report.

For example:

Changing a report file name from Report_1.html to BC_SAT_KEE_10312015.html will tell you at a glance you when you look at the report file at some point in the future that the report file contains races for Breeders Cup Saturday run at Keeneland on Oct 31, 2015.

Hint: When you rename the file be sure to keep the file extension (.html) intact so that the file can be opened in your default web browser with a simple double click.

You can always view a renamed report .html file by:

1. Navigating to the folder where the renamed file is stored on your hard drive.

2. Double clicking the renamed file itself to open it in your default web browser.
